Jefferson City, Missouri Area Information:
Jefferson City is the capital of the state of Missouri as well as the county seat for Cole County and boasts a population of 71, 397. The state capital building sits on a bluff and overlooks the Missouri River creating a picturesque view. The capital building and grounds are a popular place to visit and one can tour the famous murals from Missouri artist Thomas Hart Benton. The capital is also home to the Missouri State Museum. The capital grounds have much to see including the Missouri Veterans Memorial, one of 13 replicas of the famous Liberty Bell, and a statue of Thomas Jefferson at the entrance of the Capital Building. While at the capital one can also take a tour of the beautiful Governor's Mansion and the Carnahan Memorial Gardens. There are many other interesting places to visit including the only Veterinary Museum in the country. Jefferson City has the Museum of Missouri Military History and the Cole County Museum as well.

There are many recreational facilities in Jefferson City including the Washington Ice Park which has the only ice arena in the area and offers lessons. Jefferson City is home to several other beautiful parks with ponds for fishing, tennis courts and soccer fields. For those that love to bike there are also bike trails, including the Katy Trail. Jefferson City boasts 6 golf courses in the area, one of which is a mini golf course.

For those that are shoppers at heart, Jefferson city has much to offer. There are shopping centers, department stores, and a variety of specialty stores with unique goods making it possible for the shopper to find just about anything. If that is not enough, Jefferson City offers a truly unique opportunity - The Old Munich Berg. It is a German influenced neighborhood with a number of stores, restaurants, and festivals.

Jefferson City offers a variety of restaurants to choose from with American and international food. Central Dairy is a very popular spot to stop, especially during the summer to enjoy some locally made ice cream in many different flavors. If you want to try the local wine, there are two wineries in the immediate vicinity - Native Stone Winery Bull Rock Brewery and Summit Lake Winery. You can relax, taste the wine, and enjoy the food as well as the spectacular view.

Jefferson City Public Schools have much to offer their students; there are 11 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, Simonsen 9th Grade Center, Jefferson City High School, and a career center. Jefferson City Public Schools were recognized by Standard and Poor as an "outperformer", one of 24 schools in Missouri that received this designation. There is also the Catholic Helias High School for grades 9-12 with a commitment to high academic standards and a faith centered curriculum. For those wanting to pursue a higher education Jefferson City is home to Lincoln University which offers bachelor's and master's programs.

Jefferson City has two hospitals - St. Mary's Health Center and Capital Region Medical Center. They are two of the largest employers in Jefferson City. Government and education provide many other employment opportunities, as does Scholastic Inc.

Jefferson city has several different types of transportation to choose from. There is the Jefferson City Airport, taxi services, and bus transportation. Am Track also has a train depot, allowing an alternative means of transportation to travel around the country.

Jefferson City has several Protestant and Catholic congregations as well as several community and civic organizations in which to participate. The Audubon Society, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts are all very active.

Only a short drive away is the The Lake of the Ozarks, where one can enjoy water skiing, fishing, or simply just relaxing. Jefferson city truly has much to offer not only visitors but those wishing to call the State Capital home.
